Know what goes
into your result.

This is an original questionnaire for self-reflection. Here is what we ask, how we calculate the result, and what that result cannot establish.

What this questionnaire measures

These four symbolic patterns are lenses for reflection. They are not a hierarchy of men or a measure of masculinity. Anyone can explore them.

The 40 statements are divided equally among 4 patterns: King, Warrior, Magician, Lover. Each statement contributes to one pattern. These categories and questions are an editorial model, not an established diagnostic instrument.

From a response to a score

The five responses are coded from 0 (Not like me) to 4 (Very much like me). For a reverse-scored statement, we use 4 minus that value. All statements have equal weight. You must respond to every statement to receive a result.

For each pattern, we add its 10 coded responses, divide by 40, and multiply by 100. Each score is independent. They do not sum to 100, and they are not comparisons with other test takers.

A simple example

A coded average of 3 out of 4 becomes 75 out of 100. A raw response of 4 on a reverse-scored statement becomes 0. A midpoint can result from mostly middle answers or a mixture of high and low answers.

Close scores and ties

We flag the top two scores as close when they are less than six points apart. If the highest and lowest scores are less than six points apart, we describe the whole profile as relatively flat. Equal scores are listed alphabetically. These are editorial rules intended to avoid a false sense of precision. They are not statistically calibrated thresholds.

What has not been established

We have not established reliability, test–retest stability, population norms, factor structure, or predictive validity for this questionnaire. We do not claim that the questions discover an innate type or predict relationship success, career performance, or mental health.

Your current context, familiarity with the concepts, interpretation of the wording, and desire to present yourself in a particular way can affect the result. Six points is not a scientific boundary between two kinds of people.

How the report is generated

The optional report uses the same answers and scores as the free result. Fixed rules select interpretations, show the original responses, and add reflection prompts. No generative AI processes the answers. The report does not increase the scientific certainty of the test.

Background and attribution

The King, Warrior, Magician, and Lover framework is associated with Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette's book King, Warrior, Magician, Lover. Our statements and interpretations are original; this site does not reproduce the book's assessment or claim endorsement by its authors or publisher.
